Rediscovered kottke.org today. It was my daily source of actually interesting news like 20 years ago. Fell off my radar because of social media. And now this is still and again so much better and relevant. Human-curated news 👌🏻

Solid movie week. We caught up on a lot of more recent movies we had on our list. And my son asked to watch The Happening, which he liked. I know it‘s not Shyamalan‘s best work but he was onto something. Many scenes are extremely effective, others are goofy as hell. Fascinating! 🍿

Fell in love with this unusual building in Berlin Mitte in a quiet street. Not connected to any other houses around it. So cute.

Can‘t stop watching these Idiots in Cars videos. Seems like a majority of the people are on their phones and not paying attention. And another big chunk are the people whose point of view we see and they could have easily avoided most of these crashes. Mind-boggling!

Older people are from the future. Not YOUR future or THE future. But they have been through shit that you will most likely go through eventually as well. Somehow we only realize this once we get there ourselves.

Apple also removed the movie wishlist from iTunes on Apple TV years ago. But now they are also removing it from regular iTunes. Why they hate wishlists is a mystery. At least they sent out an email with all the movies on that list before they delete it.

Why Apple hasn‘t fixed Apple Music is insane. So many annoying things and most importantly no match at all to Spotify‘s playlist empire. Still no reason to switch back to those f#ckers.

There‘s always a ton of snacks on the table for our weekly D&D night and I can never resist and always regret it. Not so last night, I stayed strong. Very proud of myself 💪🏻

Canceled my Whoop subscription after 2 years. Still got 2 more months to go but already know I only need a) a running tracker and b) a alarm vibration bracelet from now on.

After a weekend full of very nice social interactions with dinners and long talks, I realized why they also drain so much energy from me: My legs are too long for standard chairs and this gets very uncomfortable quickly. Even worse when the table has a massive foot in the middle. No way to stretch.

Want to minimize my stuff. Started with my physical movie collection. Sold off about 150 Blurays today. Biggest surprise: Lake Placid! Bought for 7 bucks in 2017, was now paid 43 bucks. Apparently a rare out of print movie. Also a very funny movie. Check it out 🍿

Arctic vibes with the Baltic Sea being frozen until the horizon. Surreal experience.

There are 2 scenes in Predator that are weirdly out of focus. The start of the jungle minigun shootout and Arnie (or more likely his stunt double) jumping off a cliff. While this clearly wasn‘t done on purpose I always feel they both add to the realism. Like an accidental recording of a real event🍿

„Major, you better take a look at this!“ There‘s no way I‘m not going to watch my favorite movie Predator when it just started playing on linear TV. Guess my plans for the morning can wait 🍿

Finished another fantastic book. Very entertaining with tons of actionable advice 📖

First time seeing frozen waves. The sea that‘s not frozen solid yet looks like a giant slushee.

What I watched this week 🍿

One of the rare books that I deliberately tried to read slowly. Because I didn‘t want it to end. I love these stories about how iconic movies came to be. Probably need to buy the expensive paperback as well just to have it safely in my collection 📚

Tried the treadmill at the gym because it‘s too icey and cold to run outside. Had a hard time adjusting to it, it‘s feels weird without wind and visual progression of your run. Also tracking seemed off, it was my slowest run ever. No thanks!

Absolutely fitting for this weather I finally got another favorite movie poster up on the wall 🍿
